Purpose
Founded by alumni of Radford University , the Black Alumni Chapter is a forum for African American Radford alumni to
convene, communicate, and contribute to mutual professional development and the cultivation of African American
graduates, both present and future. The purpose of the chapter is to support the University in its efforts to recruit,
retain, and ensure the successful matriculation of African American students in all academic fields; to foster and maintain
positive relationships between African American students and alumni; to support the Radford University Alumni
Association in all of its efforts to promote long-lasting, positive relationships between alumni and the University.
Mission
The mission of the RU BAC is to serve as an instrument to promote positive relationships between the RU African
American student community, RU African American alumni, and the University; to serve as a network of support to the
RU African American student community; to enrich and enlighten its membership, as well as to embrace the challenges
and triumphs that we encounter “post-Radford.” Membership is open to all interested Radford University Alumni
regardless of racial or ethnic background.
The goals of the RU BAC are as follows:
- To promote acquaintance amongst alumni
- To provide a conduit for professional networking
- To encourage strong alumni interest and investment in black student communities at the University
- To increase alumni involvement in University affairs and events that impact the black communities tied to the
University
- To assist and encourage the University in its recruitment of Black candidates for undergraduate and graduate
degree programs as well as faculty and staff positions
- To cultivate a stronger sense of alumni community
It is our intent that, through this organization, a strong and supportive society of African American Radford alumni
perpetually exists to address pertinent issues and to enhance the alumni experience of each graduating class.
